The Team Behind The Solar Branco Estate & Experiences

You and your family will be hosted by the team here on site at Solar Branco. Our goal is to ensure your stay is as special as possible.

A quick rundown of who’s who in your team so you know who to speak to. If you have any questions please just ask!

Ali: Host (with the most)
Ali is in charge of welcoming guests, coordinating guest experiences and all things gin. In short, the fun stuff. He is also leads guest experiences including, hiking, mountain biking and tours around the grounds and Ponta Delgada.

Caz: Food and forest guru
Caz aims to help your taste buds savour the very best food on the island, through restaurant recommendations and bookings and on site food experiences. Caz leads shinrin yoku (forest bathing) sessions where you will experience the natural beauty of the Azores with all your senses. Caz is also in charge ensuring that all details are organised for your stay. Caz speaks an ecletic mix of English, Portuguese, German, Italian and Spanish.

Tiago: Your own concierge in the Azores
Tiago is Solar Branco’s property manager. He splits his responsibilities between looking after the house and grounds and helping to organise guest experiences. He is an Azorean native who runs tours around the island and can help advise on and book restaurants.

Miguel: Looking after the gardens
Miguel is our head gardener. The grounds of Solar Branco 1885 are vast and beautiful but require a lot of maintenance. From walled terraces that are over 150 years old to a modern planted Victorian herb themed garden, the grounds look immaculate thanks to his hard work.

Andy: Getting you out and about
Andy is a British ex-pat who runs Azores Connections our preferred experience partner here on the island. Through him and his wife, you can organise a number of activities, including everything from horse riding to whale watching.

He can also help with accommodation, flights, and itineraries to the other islands.

Joāo: Showing you where and how to surf
Love surfing, or just want to learn? The Azores has some of the best surf in Europe. João is an Azorean born and raised on the island of São Miguel, in the Azores who is passionate about surfing, the sea and dedicated to its protection.

He is an International Surfing Association Level II coach) and judge of the Portuguese Surfing Federation and ISA.  He has spent the last five years teaching surfing to both adults and children.

Penny: Head of compliments, complaints and cuddles
